A careful balance between modernism and history, a hard urban bank on one side and a soft green bank on the other. ‘Shared space’ gets the green light, cyclists and pedestrians mix subtly. The bridges fit effortlessly in their environment and reinforce the robust urban lines. Both from the water and on the quay there are good views to what is happening in the direct environment. The detailing is subtle: the lighting, the necessary equipment such as the service tableau, safety beams and traffic lights have all been designed as an integrated architectural system.
