Two bridges over “het Kanaal” in Assen, part of the larger “Blauwe As” project. All the necessary technology is integrated in a triangular construction. The bridges have subtle differences. At the narrow Groningerstraat location the parapets end abruptly, at Nobellaan the parapets flow elegantly into the surrounding landscape. Historically Groningerstraat is an entrance to Assen. This is reflected in the design: four masts turn the bridge into a gateway. At Nobellaan the setting is defined by an open and green space, the architectural language here is mostly horizontal.
